THE INFLUENCE OF HEALTH EDUCATION ON MOTHER’S KNOWLEDGE ABOUT PREVENTION AND HANDLING OF FEVER IN PUBLIC HOSPITAL Dr. DRADJAT PRAWIRANEGARA SERANG
A febrile seizure is an acute neurological disorder that is most often found in
children. Seizures occur in the following of the increased body temperature above
380C caused by the extracranial process. Knowledgable mothers regarding febrile
seizures and its handling is impacting on reducing the risk of recurrent seizures in
children. This study was aimed to determine the effect of health education on
maternal knowledge about the prevention and treatment of febrile seizures at the
Regional General Hospital of dr. Dradjat Prawiranegara Serang in 2019. The study
used a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest one group study design.
The research samples were chosen by consecutive sampling technique with 39
respondents in Flamboyan room 2 and 3 of Public Hospital of dr. Dradjat
Prawiranegara Serang. The statistical test used was dependent t-test. The results
showed that there was a significant difference of knowledge between pretest and
posttest with the p-value = 0.000, and the mean value between the knowledge of the
pretest and posttest was -5.077. The researcher concludes that health education
strongly influences the increase of knowledge of mothers about prevention and
treatment of febrile seizures so there are no recurring febrile seizures. The
researcher suggests the high supply of attractive booklets enables mothers willing to
read to have better understanding of the prevention and treatment of seizures at
home.
